Overview
As part of my BA in Graphic Design / Visual Communication I developed a book project around the theme of democratizing brand cultural value using a variety of techniques and visual devices. In this project I subverted children’s dot-2-dot illustrations in order to slow down the brand value hierarchy and to create mental space between signifiers (brand symbols) and their associated signifieds (cultural hierarchy meanings).
Project
The book appears like any other children’s dot-2-dot book, but starts out with a short story about two children from different socio-economic backgrounds and their realisation of this as they grow older. Subsequent dot-2-dot graphics present high and low end cultural capital brand logos side-by-side as a way for children to learn their forms in a more democratised and flat hierarchy to break down high vs low cultural capital within society.
